The Shani Shingnapur Temple is dedicated to Lord Shani (Saturn) and is visited by about 45,000 devotees per day. Lord Shani or Shaneshwara or Shanidev is one of the nine Navagrahas in Hindu astrology. The idol of Lord Shani here is a Swayambu, which is a five and a half feet high black rock installed on an open-air platform. It is believed that when the Shani idol was found, Lord Shani came in dreams of locals and instructed them to construct a temple without a roof as he preferred to be under open sky. Lord Shani Dev who is the son of Surya Dev (Sun) and Chhaya (Suvarna) is also known as one of the nine “Navagraha” by Hindu belief. Lord Shani Dev have a seventh place among these nine planets which govern our lives. The number of its unbelievable miracles finds its place of pride in The Guinness book of World Records. Thousands of devotees visit this place daily but the crowd swells especially on Saturdays, Shani Trayodashi, Shani Amavasya and Shani Jayanti.

To get rid of Saturn's wrath is visited from abroad and from the effects of Shanidev worship of Deity receive the blessings of salvation. It is believed that Shanidev Tailabhisek do not ever suffer. The belief of the local people in the deity is so strong that they don't build doors for their houses. In the entire village you can’t spot one house with doors locking them. The villagers putting all their faith in Shanidev have never encountered any robbery or theft despite not installing doors or locks in their houses and local residents enjoy a fearless life, all thanks to the blessings of Lord Shani who, it is believed, is very powerful and immediately punishes anyone attempting theft with blindness. The people here believe that it is the benediction of the god that no crime ever occurs in this village. The residents believe that Lord Shani’s blessings do not let any crime happen in that village. The one who dares to do any crime becomes paralyzed due to Lord’s anger.
