Gulmarg means the meadow of flowers. Originally Gulmarg was called Gaurimag named after Shiva’s coasts. Its present name was given in the 16th century by Sultan Yusuf Shah. The word "Gul" means flowers so it is also knows as Meadow of Flowers. Gulmarg is situated at an altitude of 2730 meters above sea level. The hill resort of Gulmarg discovered by the British in 1927 During the colonial rule over India. Gulmarg Kashmir is in the Pir Panjals, one of the six ranges which make up the Himalayas. There are three types of ride at Gulmarg Gondola. One is Phase-1 which is ride from Gulmarg to Kungdoor, second is Phase-2 which is ride from Kungdoor to Aparwath and third is Chair Lift which is ride from Kungdori to Marry Shoulder. There are diffrent tickets charge available for childrens and adults. In some rides childrens are not allowed. The best and longest ski run of 3 kilometres in Gulmarg is accessed by the Gondola Cable Car Lift.
