Qutub Minar was constructed in 1192 by Qutab-ud-din Aibak, and later completed by his successor Iltutmish. The soaring conical tower is an exquisite example of Indo-Islamic Afghan architecture. Qutub Minar, along with the ancient and medieval monuments surrounding it, form the Qutb Complex, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tower was built to celebrate Muslim dominance in Delhi after the defeat of Delhi’s last Hindu ruler.

Qutub Minar is one of the historical place in india which is located at 15 km in south direction from New Delhi.Qutub minar is one of the tallest minaret in India and It is made from red standstone and marbles. Qutub Minar at Delhi is a 5 storied tower. Each tower of the famous Qutub Minar has unique designs. It was hit by lightening twice. Due to this hazard, there was major damage in the structure. But during the reign of Muhammad-bin-Tughlaq, the king repaired the ensuing damage. Apart from the tower, the Qutub Minar complex comprises of the Quwwat-us-Islam Mosque (the first mosque to be built in India), a 7 metre high iron pillar, the tomb of Iltutmish, Ala’i-Darwaza and the Ala’I Minar.Besides Qutub Minar there are several other major and minor monuments in the Qutub Minar complex. These include Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque, Iron pillar, Alai Darwaza, Alai Minar, Tomb of Iltutmish, Ala-ud-din Khilji’s Madrassa and Tomb, Tomb of Imam Zamin. The other monuments in the vicinity include Mughal era gateways, a sarai, a mosque, Major Smith’s Cupola and Sanderson’s Sundial.The origins of Qutab Minar are shrouded in controversy.

Some believe it was erected as a tower of victory to signify the beginning of the Muslim rule in India. Others say it served as a minaret to the muezzins to call the faithful to prayer.The minar is not that erect as it used to be because of wears and tears over the past several years. Closely looking at the mina rives you an idea that it is somewhat tilled towards one side. The minar is very sincerely looked after by the authorities much like the same as other historic monuments in the country. Close to the mosque is the Iron pillar, one of Delhi's most curious structures. It is said to be erected in the 4th century AD by the Gupta King, Chandragupta II (375-413).
