Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is located near the main Connaught Place at Delhi. People from diffrent religions and castes from arround world visit this holy place. One of the most important historical and sacred pilgrimage destinations of the Sikh comunity Where Guru Hari Krishan The Eighth Sikh Guru stayed during his tour to Delhi in 1664. Topped by golden domes constucted by white-marble gurdwara was built at the site where Guru Harkrishan Dev stayed before his death in 1664. The Guru Harkrishan Dev served many people affected by kolera and smallpox in his time in delhi. Embellished with golden dome and a flagpole with the symbol of Sikh contingent, the very first site of Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is completely mesmerizing. The gurudwara was set up by the eminent Sikh General named Sardar Bhagel Singh in the year 1783. It was he who supervised the construction of the nine shrines of Sikhism in Delhi. All this happened during the time when the Mughal emperor Shah Alam was at power in Delhi. As with all Sikh Gurdwaras, the delicious langar (food) prepared by gursikhs is also practiced here. Besides, you may also get to see Baba Baghel Singh Museum, a library and a hospital.
Fortunately both Raja Jai Singh and his son Raja Ram Singh were in Delhi at that time. When approached by Sikhs for help, they agreed to assist them in their predicament. Besides, the Khalsa Girls School is located in the adjoining building. A tank 225 x 235 ft with 18 ft wide Parikarma and 12 ft wide varandah along its three sides has been constructed entirely with people's contnbution and voluntary labour. There was a very small tank that was constructed in memoriam of the king over the well. The water is now regarded as a pious element and seems to have healing properties. This water is often consumed by the Sikhs back at home. Mirza Raja Jai Singh had made elaborate arrangements to receive Guru Harkrishan. Guru Harkrishan was received on the outskirts of Delhi like a royal guest of honor. Guru Harkrishan was accompanied by prominent Sikhs from his darbar and his mother Sulakhni. After the death of Guru Har Kishan Sahib, Raja Jai Singh dedicated his haveli to the sacred memory of Guruji and his compassion for the sick and poor. Since then, it is being known as Gurudwara Bangla Sahib and has been an important place of worship for the Sikhs and all.
