City Palace forms one of the most famous tourist attractions and a major landmark in Jaipur. The beautiful palace was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh during his time. The palace and its structures have been designed, combining the architectural elements of the Mughal, Europe and the Shilpa Shastra of India. The palace was built between 1729 and 1732 AD by Sawai Jai Singh II.

The City Palace was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh and is a blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. It is surrounded by spacious courtyards, gardens, and temples. There are palace buildings from different eras, some dating from the early 20th century. Despite the gradual development, the whole is a striking blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. The complex of city palace is composed by a few specific and distinct areas. The Maharani's palace impresses for its delicacy, with wonderful stone carvings and frescoes painted with dust of precious stones. Just outside the Armory Museum are 2 beautifully carved elephants which leads to the inner courtyard. The inestimable collections of weapon date back to the 15th century and are in a remarkable state of preservation. Between the armoury museum and the art gallery is the Diwan-E-Khas or Hall of Private Audience. The Chandra Mahal is a 7 storey building. Unfortunately, this building is closed to the public as it is the home to the present Maharaja of Jaipur, however it is possible to visit the ground floor where some exhibits are on display. A vast palace complex that occupies nearly a seventh of the Pink City, this palace was originally built by Maharaja Jai Singh II in 1932.
