Baidyanath shrine is revered as one of the twelve Jyotirlingams of Shiva. It may be noted that some schools of thought believe Vaidyanath near Parali in Andhra Pradesh to be the Vaidyanatha Jyotirlingam. There are three temples claiming the status of jyothirlinga in the name of Vaidyanath are Baiydanath temple at Deoghar Jharkhand, Vaijnath temple at Parli Maharashtra, Baijnath temple at Baijnath Himachal Pradesh. Baidyanath temple contains 21 other temples in its temple complex. The main shrine of Lord Shiva is in lotus shape and 72 feet tall. The lingam is of a cylindrical form about 5 inches in diameter and projects about 4 inches from the centre of a large slab of basalt. The architecture of this Baidyanath Temple is indigenous. We can place it under Nagar style. It is Shringvat temple. It contains Kati, Mekhala, and Shring which support the style of Nagara. According to religious belief this temple has been built by Vishwakarma, the architect of gods.
