India Gate - Originally Called The All India War Memorial - Delhi - India

The India gate was structured and designed by Edwin Lutyens in 1921.The foundation stone was laid by His Royal Highness - The Duke of Connaught. The India Gate was built to commemorate the British and Indian soldiers who died in the First World War and hundreds of soldiers who lost their lives in the Northwest Frontier, the Afghan war of 1919 and the Indo-Pak war in 1971.

Across Rajpath in Central Delhi at the eastern end is laid a huge archway that is made of stone and is a pride that resembles victory. The monument is raised to a height of 42 meters and is formerly known as India Gate. At the centre of New Delhi stands the 42 m high India Gate. and the entire arch stands on a low base of red stone and rises in stages to a huge molding. Amar Jawan Jyoti, an eternal flame, burns 24 hours. This was lit to pay home to the soldiers who were killed during the Indo-Pak war in 1971. The India Gate is flanked by lush green lawns, which are a popular picnic spot, especially during winter afternoons and summer evenings.

 The wide roads surrounding the India Gate are also frequented by morning and evening walkers. It has been declared from history of india gate that the place is very much known for its patriotic feeling. There is a story that also moves along with India Gate which says that the place is also considered as tomb to all those unknown soldiers who have given their lives fighting for the pride of their country. This monument was built under the supervision and control of Duke of Connaught during the year 1921 and the building was dedicated to Lord Viceroy at the time of 1931 namely, Lord Irwin. During nightfall, India Gate is dramatically floodlit while the fountains nearby make a lovely display with coloured lights. India Gate stands at one end of Rajpath, and the area surrounding it is generally referred to as 'India Gate'. The lawns of India Gate bustle with people, particularly during summer evenings. The lawns of India Gate house the famous boat club and a children's park. It lends more beauty to India Gate. After the controversy the statue has been removed from here. The canopy was also designed and built by Lutyens.

The monument is open to visitors 24 hours a day, but after dark the area surrounding the main monument is cordoned off to visitors. Entry is free and open to all. There are no any charges for photography and videography.
