Bandhavgarh National Park is spread at vindhya hills in Madhya Pradesh. Bandhavgarh National Park consists of a core area of 105 sq km and a buffer area of approximately 400 sq km of topography varies between steep ridges, undulating, forest and open meadows. Bandhavgarh National Park is known for the Royal Bengal Tigers. The name “bandhav-garh” translates to “the brother’s fort” and believed to be gifted by Hindu God Rama to his devoted ‘bandhav’ (brother) Laxmana on his return from victory over Lanka (Ceylon). Inside the park there are 12 natural waterholes, several other historical monuments and remains of ancient caves that exhibit a 2000 year old rich historical past.Their is a special bird-watching point at hill-top where Bandhavgarh fort is located. From this point one can have scenic overview of Bandhavgarh forest and can do photography of birds flying at their eye-level. Similarly close to water sources, inside Tiger Reserve, one can have chance to do birdwatching, especially in early morning hours of morning park safari. Also see the fort still belongs to the Maharaja of Rewa and permission is required to visit it. However permission is available locally and no trip to Bandhavgarh is complete without making an effort to climb up the fort. Bandhavgarh was ruled by a by a succession of dynasties but lost its importance in the 17th century with the shifting of court life to Rewa. Without royal patronage Bandhavgarh became more and more deserted until forest overran the area and it became the royal hunting reserve. If your sole reason for visiting a national park in India is to see a tiger, look no further. Though it's not as easy as it used to be, a couple of days at Bandhavgarh should net you a tiger sighting in this relatively small park, whose Tala Range boasts the highest density of Royal Bengal tigers in the world (68 as of 2013).
