The Nathdwara Shrinathji temple of Rajasthan houses a statue of Lord Krishna, sculpted from a single piece of black marble. The statue has one of its arms raised, giving an impression of Lord Krishna holding the Govardhan Mountain. The other arm seems to be giving a blessing as well as holding a dance posture. Built In 1672 By Rana Raj Singh who was the only gallant and made an effort to rescue the idol from the domain of Aurangzeb. The idol of Srinathji is considered to be one which is self manifested. At the time of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb reign image of Lord Krishna was brought to Mewar for the sake of protection. Shrinathji Temple is one amongst the richest temples of India. It receives millions of rupees as offering to the Lord. The holy shrine of Shrinathji is famous all over Rajasthan and India. Shrinathji at Nathdwara, Udaipur, is a famous temple of Lord Krishna. In the town of Nathdwar Shrinathji temple is the main attraction but the town is also famous for its 'pichhwai paintings. There are paintings of elephants, horses, beautiful maidens and doorkeepers on all the doorways. This 17th century temple house the original statue of Shrinathji or Lord Krishna. The temple has three entrances, one (Surajpol) being exclusively for women. The temple authorities possess approximately 500 cows and the milk of these cows, is used for the preparation of sweets and milk products. Nathdwara is linked closely with the Vallabha Sampradaya of Vaishnavism. The temple is referred to as 'Haveli', commonly used in Rajasthan for the mansions of the wealthy merchants. It is also said that the Nathdwara Shrinathji Temple was visited by Taj Bibi, a wife of Akbar to offer prayers to the renowned image of the god Krishna that dates back to 12th century BC.
