Located at a mere distance of 240 kms from Shimla, Kullu has a series of historical legend attached to it. This most cherished town of Himachal Pradesh, was earlier was known as Kulanthapitha. The earliest recorded information of this area goes back to 1st century AD, when this valley began to be inhabited. In the 17th century, Raja Jagat Singh placed an idol of Lord Raghunathji, which was transported from Ayodha.

Kullu has a charming climate all through the year but the most ideal tourist season is from September to June. In September to February there are winter season starts and very cool and sometime minimum temperature can go down to well below 0°C and is accompanied by heavy snowfall and is a good time for honeymoon. In March to June there are summer season start so there are pleasant and considered to be the ideal season for sight seeing and various adventure activities. The airport is at Bhuntar, which is 10 km from Kullu.

There are regular bus services for Kullu and Manali from Delhi and Chandigarh. Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) runs regular buses to Delhi, Chandigarh, Shimla and other places from Kullu.

By Rail:

Pathankot is the nearest railway station to Kullu. Chandigarh is the most convenient railway station as regular bus service is available from Chandigarh to Kullu.
