Nageshwar Temple a few kms from Dwarka is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples and is well visited. The temple features a Massive Shiva statue right outside the Temple. The Shivlinga in the Nagnath Temple faces south. The giant statue of Lord Shiva is another attraction of the temple. The Rudra Samhita sloka refers to Nageshwar with the phrase ′Daarukaavane Naagesham′. The story is Daurka the king of snakes captivated a devotee of Lord Shiva whose name was Supriya. Supriya called Shiva to come and help. He came and rescued them. Since that time it is said that Lord Shiva resides here in the form of Jyotirlinga. The Nageswara Jyotirlingam is claimed to exist in 3 places in Dwaraka, in Audhgram, near Almora in Uttar Pradesh. This Jyotirlinga manifestation of Shiva is worshipped as Nageswara. Two other sites in India, one near Audhgram near Purna in Andhra Pradesh and another near Almora in Uttar Pradesh also enshrine temples to Nageswara Jyotirlingam.
