Kaziranga National Park is open daily from 1st November to 30th April for 6 months, unless due to the rains in any exceptional year the park has to be closed earlier by the management for safety or unless census may be scheduled. Park may remain open partially on the months of October and May subject to weather and road conditions.

Kaziranga National Park – a world heritage site, the park hosts two-thirds of the world’s Great One-horned rhinoceros. Kaziranga also boasts the highest density of tigers among the protected areas in the world and was declared a Tiger Reserve in 2006.Kaziranga National Park is one of the last areas in eastern India undisturbed by a human presence. It is inhabited by the world's largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses, as well as many mammals, including tigers, elephants, panthers and bears, and thousands of birds.Lying between the latitudes of 26°30' N and 26°45' N, and longitudes 93°08' E to 93°36' E within two districts of Assam, Golaghat and Nagaon, the Kaziranga National Park is stretched across an area of 378 sq km with an addition of 429 sq km along the present boundary of the park.

The land of Kaziranga is made fertile with the alluvial soil formed by the erosion and the silt deposition of Brahmaputra River to make it more eligible for agriculture at the outskirts of the park area. One of the many attractions in the Kaziranga National Park is exploring the hidden mystery of the dense jungle on elephants that are steered by the professional Mahout. These winter months are generally mild and dry with mean maximum and minimum temperatures at 250C and 50C respectively.

The most nearest railway station is Jakhalabandha, which is 22.1 km (21 minutes) away from Kaziranga. Other nearest railheads are Furkating (99.7 km/1 hr 36 min) and Guwahati (191.3 km/3 hr 15 min).

By Road :

The nearest route by bus is Guwahati (225 km/approx.4 hrs) where private bus services are accessible from Paltan bazar/ Inter State Bus Terminus (NH Bypass at Sarusajai).Walking inside the park is strictly prohibited, but birdwatching on foot (take a guide) outside the park boundary or even along the national highway can be very rewarding. Others options are Tezpur (80 km), Jorhat (90 km) and Dibrugarh (220 km). All these cities are well connected by National Highways.Buses travel from Kohora village to Guwahati (₹350, five hours, hourly 7.30am to 4.30pm), Dibrugarh (₹320, four hours) and Tezpur (₹90, two hours).Mihimukh near Kohora is the most popular starting point for most visitors. Early morning rides (5.30 and 7.00 a.m.) on Forest Department elephants can be booked here.
