Located at an altitude of 996 metres above mean sea level Chamba lies on the banks of the River Ravi and is 56 km from Dalhousie. The beautiful valley of Chamba looks spectacular with its valleys of wild flowers and stunning sunsets. The history of the place can be traced back to the 2nd century BC when it was ruled by the Kolian Tribes. Situated at the height of 996 m. above sea level Chamba Valley was founded in 920 A.D by Raja Sahil Verma who named it after his favourite daughter Champavati.
